Commercial transition
Who is affected
CSP distributors, direct-bill and indirect reseller partners, systems integrators, software vendors and customers preparing new commercial Microsoft 365 Copilot Business purchases and associated usage-based services. Timing and eligibility remain subject to Microsoft's eventual rollout.
Action required
Replace 2 November and 1 December 2026 rollout assumptions in quotes, billing forecasts, readiness plans and internal launch calendars with the stated January–March 2027 window. Do not infer a particular start day or sandbox date. Review spending controls and eligible-market details, and recheck Microsoft Partner Center before purchase.
Evidence boundary
The official 3 November announcement postpones the rollout window and sandbox date; it does not establish an exact launch day, automatic charges before activation, free included Copilot Credits, universal instantaneous eligibility or a licence-price change. The 4,000-Copilot-Credit default is a configurable spending policy, not an included allowance. The separate Copilot USL/UBB billing-model record remains distinct and is corrected for historical chronology.
Timeline
- Initial CSP default-on announcement
Microsoft first announced the transition for 2 November 2026; a subsequent October update shifted the planned date to 1 December.
- Rollout and sandbox timing postponed
Microsoft moved the default-on rollout to January–March 2027, without specifying a day, and postponed sandbox availability pending further notice.
