Microsoft retires AI Builder capacity add-ons from sale on 1 November 2026

Microsoft retires AI Builder capacity add-ons from CSP sale on 1 November 2026, so partners must turn off auto-renew before each customer's next renewal date while active add-on credits remain usable until the subscription term ends.

Retiring from sale; active add-on credits continue to term end

Commercial transition

Previous stateAI Builder capacity add-ons were sold through CSP as capacity packs providing 1 million AI Builder credits, and existing add-on customers could renew them and purchase additional packs alongside their active entitlements.

New stateFrom 1 November 2026, Microsoft retires AI Builder capacity add-ons from sale, ending new purchases and renewals. Partners must turn off auto-renew before each affected customer's next renewal date. Customers with active add-ons keep their AI Builder credits for the remainder of the current subscription term and can continue running AI Builder features until those licences expire. AI Builder features remain supported; once AI Builder credits are exhausted or unavailable, Power Apps and Power Automate use Copilot Credits where available. Microsoft states that there is no automatic conversion of AI Builder credits to Copilot Credits and does not announce expiry of active licences on 1 November.

Who is affected

CSP distributors, direct-bill partners and indirect resellers with customers using AI Builder capacity add-ons, together with those customers and Power Platform administrators who manage the affected subscriptions and environments.

Action required

Inventory affected add-on subscriptions, turn off auto-renew before each customer's next renewal date in Partner Center or through the distributor as applicable, confirm each contract's term-end date for remaining credits, and plan Copilot Credits for AI Builder workloads that must continue after AI Builder credits run out.

Evidence boundary

Microsoft describes retirement from sale and natural expiry at contract term end, not the discontinuation of AI Builder features or an immediate end to active licences on 1 November. No automatic conversion of AI Builder credits to Copilot Credits is established; fallback to Copilot Credits applies only when AI Builder credits are exhausted or unavailable, and usage is blocked when neither currency is available. Seeded AI Builder credits in premium licences follow a separate calendar from capacity add-ons. Neither cited page states a price or cost change, and this record draws no pricing conclusion.

Timeline

  1. New-customer add-on sales end

Microsoft stopped selling AI Builder capacity add-ons to customers without an active add-on, while existing add-on customers could still renew and purchase more. This earlier end-of-sale is distinct from the 2026 retirement.

  2. AI Builder credits article updated

Microsoft documented the detailed end-of-credits calendar, contract-term honouring of existing credits and Copilot Credits fallback behaviour.

  3. Partner Center announcement

Microsoft told CSP partners that AI Builder capacity add-ons retire on 1 November 2026 and that auto-renew must be turned off before each customer's next renewal date.

  4. Add-ons retire from sale

New sales and renewals end; customers with active add-ons continue using their AI Builder credits until the licences expire.
