GitHub retires four Copilot models across all experiences on 2 October

GitHub will deprecate Gemini 3.5 Flash, Gemini 3.6 Flash, Kimi K2.7 Code and Claude Opus 4.7 across all Copilot experiences on 2 October 2026 and points users to named alternatives.

New stateOn 2 October 2026, GitHub will deprecate the four models across Copilot Chat, inline edits, ask and agent modes, and code completions. GitHub suggests Gemini 3.8 Flash, Kimi K3 and Claude Opus 5 as replacements.

Who is affected

GitHub Copilot users, workflows and integrations that explicitly select one of the four retiring models, plus Business and Enterprise administrators whose model policies govern alternative access.

Action required

Move workflows and integrations to a supported alternative before 2 October 2026 and verify that the chosen replacement is available and enabled in the applicable organization or enterprise policy.
