GitHub adds enterprise-team specialisation for Copilot managed settings

Enterprise administrators can map itemised settings files to teams, allow only named keys to vary and add team plugins or marketplaces without removing the enterprise baseline.

Team specialisation available

Commercial transition

Previous stateCopilot managed settings did not expose the new enterprise-team mapping and overridable-key specialisation model.
New stateEnterprises can define team files for approved overridable keys while locked enterprise settings remain authoritative and plugin additions remain additive.

Who is affected

GitHub enterprises issuing Copilot Business or Enterprise licences and governing supported Copilot clients.

Action required

Keep the standards repository internal, mark only intended keys overridable, review team mappings and test least-restrictive combinations for multi-team users.

Evidence boundary

Enterprise defaults and non-overridable keys remain controlling. Support is limited to the named clients and Business or Enterprise licences; additive settings cannot subtract the enterprise floor.

Timeline

  1. Team-scoped controls released

GitHub published overridable keys, team mappings and additive plugin and marketplace settings.
